CareerFab: Attorney and Music Artist Rexy Rolle

  • Posted By : admin/

  • Under : CAREER

What do you get when you put a super talented and legal mind together? You get the one and only Rexy Rolle. Rexy is a licensed attorney but her recent venture into the music industry as a recording artist has everyone talking and her new journey has even been recognized by Forbes. Do you have a career goal in becoming a lawyer or music artist? Well we have the scoop on everything you need to know, read on!

1. Why did you choose your profession?

I knew I wanted to practice law when I was younger, but I wasn’t sure which type of law I’d focus on. When my parents ventured to start an airline in 2000 I witnessed both the triumphs and the trials. As time progressed, and certainly by the time I started law school it was clear to me that I needed to bring value and help where it was needed at Western Air, so that steered my career. My focus on aviation and business law became an operational asset almost immediately.

2. What is the favorite part of your job?

I love a good flow and I truly enjoy working collectively with my team to provide one thing: quality, consistent service to our customers.

3. What is the most difficult part of your job?

Sometimes tough decisions are required on the spot where not everyone wins in that moment. Being responsible for how those choices unfold is difficult but it’s a part of the territory.

4.  Who is your mentor (if any)? We read that you were recently inspired by businesswoman and artist Rihanna regarding your music career.

Cheesy to say, but my parents. I learn a lot of practical tips from them, sprinkled in with life lessons.

5. Best piece of advice for someone pursuing your field?

The aviation industry is large in scope, with many professions tucked away in each sector. Some of those professions are not as known or popular to the general public. I would say, get well versed on the various paths within the field. This field (like most) is also recommendation heavy, we trust the people we have proven business with, so get involved in some capacity early on to connect, whether that’s through clubs, internship, mentoring opportunities, etc.

6. If you have not chosen this profession would have you chosen instead? We see that you recently have ventured into music and you have recorded three singles as a new recording artist and that making music and being a lawyer seem different but are actually alike in the sense you have to know how to finesse words to get your point across.

I would’ve probably done something in Communications/ Entertainment, perhaps a television anchor/ host. Growing up I never wanted to be just one thing. The music journey is fairly new for me, and it requires me building and being consistent with putting out music and really building a base.

7. Favorite designer?

Too many to name. But for work I tend to like quite a bit of Ted Baker. Generally it’s all about the fit and whether I do a double take. I usually shop very fast and only stop if it catches my eye.

8. Favorite makeup brand?

Fenty Beauty! My makeup bag is pretty diverse, with numerous brands. But it’s a plus to support talented black business women (like Rihanna) and that’s easy to do when the products are great.

9. Favorite hair care?

My hair is natural and I wear a lot of protective styles, so keeping my hair moisturized is very important. Argan oil, coconut oils, Shea Moisture shampoo and conditioners are also go-yo hair care products for me.

10. Favorite skin brand?

Recently I’ve been using a few Elta products, mainly tinted facial sunscreen.

11. If you could only choose 5 items to put in your purse everyday, what would they be?

Passport, credit card, press powder for touch ups, phone and lip gloss!

12. Anything you would like our readers to know that you are supporting, selling or creating?

Have you ever considered straightening your teeth to improve your smile?  Are you thinking about applying to dental school?  Well we have Dr. A to the rescue!  Dr.  Amira Ogunleye is the co-owner of Beautiful Smiles in Florida.  Read on to read her philosophy behind a beautiful smile and how to be successful in the dentistry field!

www.beautifulsmilesfl.com

Instagram:  @beautifulsmilesfl

1) Why did you choose your profession?

I grew up in a very strict household when it came to my studies. My father was all about education so my options were Medical School, Law School, or Dental School.  I had a horrible smile when I was young, I mean very crooked teeth.  I was very insecure about my smile.  I begged my dad for braces and when I got them finally I felt comfortable smiling. That’s when I knew I wanted to be a dentist. The difference it had on my self-confidence was HUGE.  I knew I wanted to do that for people.

2) What is the favorite part of your job?

Definitely the difference I can make in one’s life. It’s amazing how much a new smile can influence a person’s self-esteem and confidence. That feeling at the end of a case when a patient is overwhelmed with emotional joy.  That’s the BEST.

3) What is the most difficult part of your job?

The importance of details in dentistry is the most difficult part. Something as small as 1mm off is SO significant. You have to be extremely precise. Additionally, I have OCD so I can never accept good; it has to be great and that can be challenging.

4) Who is your mentor (if any)?

My older sister.  She is also a Dentist and I have always admired and looked up to her.  I was blessed to have her guidance along my journey. Everything I am is because of that woman!

5) Best piece of advice for someone pursuing your field?

Stay focused on the end goal because the road will be very tiring, rough and really test your mental stamina. The rainbow after the storm is so BEAUTIFUL and rewarding.

6) If you have not chosen this profession would have you chosen instead?
I would have been a surgeon. I love working with my hands and that’s another profession where you really change lives.

7) Favorite designer?

I wouldn’t say I have a favorite.  It depends on my mood and vibe I’m going for. I have really been into Fe Noel lately. I own so many of her wide leg pants.

8) Favorite makeup brand?

Bobbi Brown

9) Favorite hair care?

I love Shea Moisture products.

10) Favorite skin brand?

There is this amazing face wash I absolutely love called Glytone Mild Gel Cleanser.

11) If you could only choose 5 items to put in your purse everyday, what would they be?

Pink lipstick, Mascara, Hair Tie, and Tooth Brush and Toothpaste of course ?

12) Free plug:)– Anything you would like our readers to know that you are supporting, selling or creating?

The name of my dental practice that I co-own with my sister is called Beautiful Smiles.  We continue to strive to achieve a practice that aims to change lives…one smile at a time.  This year we will be hosting our Summer Children’s Event where we provide free cleanings and dental screenings to those less fortunate individuals who can use a fresh new smile!

Inspofab: A New Years Plan vs. A New Years Resolution

  • Posted By : admin/
  • Under : INSPIRATION

We are one week in 2018.  How are your New Years Resolutions going?  Statistically half of all resolutions fail.  Read on to make sure you do not become a statistic!

Your resolution may be wrong for one of the following three reasons:

  • It’s a resolution created based on what someone else (or society) is telling you to change.
  • It’s too vague.
  • You don’t have a realistic plan for achieving your resolution.

Goal is another word for Resolution.  Your goals should have a PLAN and be SMART. That’s an acronym coined in the journal Management Review in 1981 for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. It may work for management, but it can also apply to your resolutions, too.

  • Specific. Your goal should be absolutely clear. “Making a concrete goal is really important rather than just vaguely saying ‘I want to lose weight.’ You want to have a goal: How much weight do you want to lose and at what time interval?” said Katherine L. Milkman, an associate professor of operations information and decisions at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
  • Measurable. This may seem obvious if your goal is a fitness or weight loss related one, but it’s also important if you’re trying to cut back on something, too. If, for example, you want to grow your hair.  Take pictures of your hair at the beginning and throughout the year so you can really SEE the progress. Tracking you progress into a journal or making notes on your phone or in an app designed to help you track behaviors can reinforce the progress, no matter what your resolution may be.
  • Achievable. Now this doesn’t mean that you can’t have big goals. However, trying to take too big a step too fast can leave you frustrated and likely lead to you failing.  So, for example, resolving to save enough money to retire in five years when you’re 40 years old is probably not realistic, but saving an extra $100 a month may be.
  • Relevant. Is this a goal that really matters to you, and are you making it for the right reasons? “If you do it out of the sense of self-hate or remorse or a strong passion in that moment, it doesn’t usually last long,” said Dr. Michael Bennett, a psychiatrist and co-author of two self-help books. Also if you are doing something because of family or societal pressures that also may not be the best thing for you.  For example, are you trying to get married because society says you should be married by 30 and so you are willing to just settle for the next guy to come along?  In the short term, you may meet your goal but on other hand spend a life time of misery with the wrong person.
  • Time-bound. Create a realistic timeline and plan toward reaching your goal. That means giving yourself enough time to do complete your goal and setting intermediate smaller goals along the way to give yourself the motivation to keep going.  “Focus on these small wins so you can make gradual progress,” Charles Duhigg, author of “The Power of Habit” and a former New York Times writer, said. “If you’re building a habit, you’re planning for the next decade, not the next couple of months.”

Comment below on your top resolution for this year and how you plan to reach it!  2018 is your year, I can feel it!:)

CareerFab: PR and Travel Guru Leslie Green

  • Posted By : admin/

  • Under : CAREER
Say Hello to Ms. Leslie Green! Love to travel the world and get paid to do it?  Want to enter the Public Relations industry?  Then read on! Ms. Green does it all:)  Also don’t forget to get your copy of her book “Teach Me PR 101”!
1) Why did you choose your profession?
As a multi-passionate entrepreneur, I have multiple professions! I chose public relations and the communications industry because I enjoy writing and connecting and building relationships with people. I chose the travel industry because I absolutely love to travel and when someone told me I could get paid to do that and create unforgettable memories for others I jumped at the opportunity.

2) What is the favorite part of your job?
I enjoy seeing people winning. I love being able to do that on both sides of my business. When I see someone shine because of some connection I made or because of some promotion that makes the greatness of someone else visible, that makes me feel great. I also love to see the joy beaming from someone when they return from a vacation experience that I created for them or I helped them earn money from themselves. Priceless!
3) What is the most difficult part of your job?
The difficult part of my job happens to also be what I love about my job: dealing with people. People aren’t always the easiest to work with, especially when they have unreasonable expectations about what you can do for them.

4) Who is your mentor (if any)?
I have many mentors for different areas of my life: spiritual, business, my professions, life in general. They are all unique and bring something very special to my life. My ultimate life mentor is my mom though. She is incredible and she has inspired me in so many ways.

5) Best piece of advice for someone pursuing your field?
Become great at networking! Building genuine relationships with people is vital. You never know how far important connections can get you until you make them.

6) If you have not chosen this profession would have you chosen instead?
I used to want to be a child psychologist. I majored in psychology my first year in college and quickly learned that field nor anything science related was not for me. I think I’m doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing at this time in my life. I have a feeling that’s going to evolve over time though. At heart, I have and always will be an entrepreneur so who knows what I will create in the future.
7) Favorite designer?
I’m not really into labels or designers – I wear what I think suits me at that particular time in my life. I do have a number of Diane Von Furstenberg pieces in my closet that I absolutely adore.
8) Favorite makeup brand?
I’m not really a big makeup person either but the majority of items in my makeup bag are MAC. I’m looking to branch out and find some other options so maybe I’ll fine some recommendations here!
9) Favorite hair care?
As a naturalista, I’ve experimented with so many brands I’m not even loyal to one brand of products. I do enjoy the Aunt Jackie’s Curl Lala defining custard for my twistouts though. It makes my curls soft, light and fluffy and it smells delicious. I’m always getting compliments on how good my hair smells.
10) Favorite skin brand?
I’ve always loved Dove products in general and my favorite brand for facial products is Neutrogena.
11) If you could only choose 5 items to put in your purse everyday, what would they be?
Phone, wallet, lipgloss/lipstick, hand sanitizer and I guess my keys because I have to have those!
12) Free plug:)– Anything you would like our readers to know that you are selling or creating or philanthropic organizations you are apart of?
If you are an entrepreneur and you’d like to learn the basics of how to do your own PR, visit www.masterprbasics.com and sign up for my course Teach Me PR 101 and/or purchase the supplemental book.
