In the last 90 days, the world has seen a global pandemic with the Covid Crisis and racial tensions rise in the fight against police brutality.

I like you probably sometimes feel overwhelmed with the amount of information to process and all the graphic images and videos of those hurting, angry or dying. Below are some tips from Talk Space and us on how to ope with these traumatic events.

HOW TO COPE WITH TRAUMATIC RACIAL EVENTS

  1. Know when it’s time to power off your phone and avoid triggering videos and accounts.
  2. Only watch news max twice a day to stay informed but not overwhelmed.
  3. Write out your feelings in a journal
  4. Increase self care (home face masks, drink tea and water, take bubble baths, mediate, exercise).
  5. Be an advocated the best way you can whether it be sharing or signing a petition, making a call, or donating to causes. Everyone doesn’t need to physically protest to make a difference.
  6. If you are not Black American make sure out to reach out to your Black American friends to let them know that you care and are thinking of them.

HOW TO COPE WITH TRAUMATIC COVID EVENTS

  1. Do not completely isolate. Social distance only requires mask and six feet. Most states are in phase two of re-opening so visiting friends in outdoor spaces like hiking, beach and parks is good.
  2. Exercise in your house or walk around your neighborhood.
  3. Drink Plenty of Vitamin C to fight off germs.
  4. Wash your hands every time you come back from being outside for at least 20 seconds and wipe down common surfaces like your phone and door knobs twice a day.
  5. Pray and or Mediate.
  6. Zoom or Facetime Family and Friends at least once a week.
  7. Step outside at least once a day.
  8. Order in your favorite foods.
  9. Watch your favorite movies and catch up on binge worthy shows.

InspoFab: My real life CBD Journey with Brown Girl Jane!

It’s 2 am, I can’t sleep. I’m tossing and turning. After pure exhaustion I finally fall back to sleep only to wake right back up at 6am. During the day I can not focus. I’m not starting and completing as many tasks as I did before. I feel overwhelmed and anxious. This has been my life since October of last year. After several personal challenges including recovering from a knee injury, fighting off a stalker, my brother being shot in a drive by, dealing with a business partner dispute and relocation after a breakup, I was at my ropes end. One day I just so happen to being scrolling down my Instagram page and I noticed my best friend from high school and her sister had launched a new CBD line of drops and scrubs for anxiety and sleep. I immediately called her to reconnect and tell her what symptoms I had been suffering but also to express my concerns with CBD. I had never smoked marijuana let alone inhaled it so I was afraid I would be walking around high as a kite! To my surprise and relief she said CBD was not weed! CBD (a calming cannabinoid) unlike THC which is contained in weed, has no psychoactive effects. There is no “high” or other mind-altering effects from CBD. On the contrary: CBD on its own has calming, anti-anxiety effects—one of the reasons why it’s been identified as a useful supplement to treat insomnia and other sleep problems. However, CBD can have several positive effects including it may help you feel relaxed. That can feel a bit like a high, though it’s not intoxicating.
Within 24 hours of trying the “sleep” drops I immediately felt relief and could sleep. And during the day it took about a week for me to start feeling the calmness the “balance” drops gave me but I definitely regained my focus. Trying to run 3 companies and balancing my brothers recovery has been the hardest thing I have had to since my dad’s passing 5 years ago. Asking for help is not in my nature and prior to these CBD drops I was not an advocate of aides like prescription drugs that people tend to become addicted to. That’s why these drops are a miracle and have really SAVED my life. So glad I tried CBD! I also like that her drops were made in mind for the busy professional woman especially women of color. If you are interested in trying CBD this is a great starting place! Visit Browngirljane.com to purchase and learn more! Leave a comment below on your CBD journey!

InspoFab: Being Selective

  • Posted By : admin/

Have you ever been told you are too picky?  Or are in the alternative, do you find yourself overwhelmed with saying “Yes” to often?        This article will not only explain why you should say yes to less, but you will find more successful you become, the more you should eliminate things from your life, stop doing some activities, and say no to tens of seemingly tempting opportunities daily. Why? Because you want to stay sane and actually have enough time and focus for the things that are the most important to you and truly deserve your attention and efforts.

Start Saying No More Often

If you want peace of mind but also to be action-oriented and constantly move forward in the right direction, you’ll have to let go of the ‘say yes to everything’ mindset. And start saying no instead.

For starters:

  • you’ll be removing people from your life instead of making new friends all the time, you just don’t have enough time for that;
  • you’ll stop doing some of the things you’ve always been doing because they don’t give you the desired result and your time is better spent on other things;
  • you’ll be selective when it comes to consuming information too. You don’t want to be overwhelmed, so you’ll be reading only so much daily/weekly and only by respected sources. You’ll stop watching meaningless videos, will unsubscribe from all newsletters, will stop checking out the news (and dare I say it including social media) all the time, and focus on your most important tasks for the day instead;
  • other people will hear you say no to them more often than usual and may even get offended.
  • constantly review your life goals and daily schedule and ask yourself the following questions:
  1. What’s the 20% that gives me 80% of the results and what can I do to eliminate the rest?
  2. Remove in your life what does not give you pleasure and or does not get you closer to your goals.
  • practice daily planning with planning your day the night before.  Put at the top of your list the 3 most important tasks and tackle them first.

When You Should Say Yes

So when should you say yes, then?

Derek Sivers explains it best in this article: “If I feel anything less than, “Wow! That would be amazing! Absolutely! Hell yeah!” – then my answer is no.

To make this decision easier for you, ask yourself does saying “yes” to this person or request contribute to your bottom line spiritually, mentally, physically, financially or emotionally?  If the answer is “no” then you have your answer.

Now that you know that, sit down and do some brainstorming. Take your time and list your top priorities in every area of life, then see which area matters to you more than the rest.  The key is elimination so what is left is only what truly matters. Put that list in a visible place, go through it daily so that you never forget what’s truly important in your life. And so that you don’t get lost, confused, overwhelmed or worst stuck living out other persons lives, desires and priorities.

Saying yes to less means you’re living your life with intention, one day at a time, constantly doing things that improve you and are the right choice, making time only for what’s necessary and gives you result.

This is an amazing way to live life, and something few have chosen to do.

If you ever feel bad about saying “No” keep in mind some pretty successful people out there are saying no every minute (smile).

So what’s the takeaway?  It’s okay to be picky.  Be picky with your money, time, energy and especially the people you surround yourself with.

InspoFab: Be Intentional In All You Do!

  • Posted By : admin/

  • Under : INSPIRATION

Are you feeling overwhelmed? Do you feel unfulfilled? Are you struggling with organization? Do you want to have a more happier life?

Growing up, in my faith I was told to be intentional when I prayed. In other words, be more specific so I got exactly what I wanted. This concept can be applied to all aspects of your life not just your spiritual one. I recently applied this to my professional life when I was seeking more legal remote work. The minute I stopped applying to everything that was not that I landed the remote position I desired!

What does it mean to be intentional?

Being intentional means you purposefully  interact and engage with your life for your ultimate desired outcome. This means you are purposeful in every word and action.

You respond instead of react. You love instead of fear. You embrace instead of expect. You accept instead of resist.

Why be intentional?

Drake has a rap lyric that says “Everybody dies but not everyone lives.” Be intentional because you want to do more than just get by. Be intentional because you dream and want to have a happy, successful and fulfilling life.

How to live an intentional life

1. Practice consistency with small steps. Create an ideal day and begin to execute some quick and easy actions that reflect that ideal. Whether it’s morning prayer, gym time, or reading a few pages of a book, small consistent action is more important than immediate results because it leads to long term success in the bigger things.

2. Express gratitude. Life is lived in this moment, enjoying what you have here and now versus what will be in the future will lead to a happier life everyday.

3. Take a Breathe. Pause before you make a decision. Taking a moment to reflect before making a final decision will make you more proactive than reactive.

4. Know Yourself. What’s important to you? What do you love to do? Which people are meaningful to you? What inspires you?

5. Discover Your Choices. You may feel stuck sometimes but the truth is you have unlimited choices. Widen your perspective and make a list of your choices so you have a visual for best path for you to take.

6. Declutter your life.  Rid yourself of those things that hold you back from living a purposeful and fulfilling life. This can be bad habits, negative attitudes, situations, and people that do not add value to your life. Like the song says, “I can do bad by myself!”

7. Forgive. Forgive yourself, forgive others. Holding onto resentments holds you back.

8. Stop comparing yourself. It may sound cliche but it doesn’t matter what anyone else is doing. We all have our own paths in life. Even those that appear to have a perfect life DON’T! Do what’s best for you- whether it’s marrying later so you can marry the best person for you or holding out for the job you are truly passionate about. Do what’s best for you!

InspoFab: Unequally Yoked Applies to Business Too!

  • Posted By : admin/

  • Under : INSPIRATION

The phrase “unequally yoked” is a phrase most commonly found in the Bible ( 2 Corinthians 6:14 “Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?”).   However, I have found this to be true also in business relationships.

A yoke is a wooden bar that joins two oxen to each other and to the burden they pull. An “unequally yoked” team has one stronger ox and one weaker, or one taller and one shorter. The weaker or shorter ox would walk more slowly than the taller, stronger one, causing the load to go around in circles. When oxen are unequally yoked, they cannot perform the task set before them. Instead of working together, they are at odds with one another and they find themselves going into circles.

In short, just like in a personal relationship where the balance is “unequal”, a business relationship where partners do not share the same vision, work ethic or even risk will also be doomed from the very beginning.  And just like the oxen you will find yourself going in circles with your business partner instead of making progress.  I found myself in this position for two grueling years with a business partner and a friend who was the complete opposite of me.  We literally had an argument every two weeks about our roles and eventually these arguments bled into the marketing strategy and the vision of the business.  Two years and $2,000 later I realized we were just going in circles.  I had to make the very difficult decision to cut my losses and quit while I was ahead so I did not invest any more money and time in the business.  She was 70% owner of the business but I was doing 150% of the work even neglecting some of my other business ventures.  That math was not adding up and I began to feel used and unappreciated.  I realized my role was better suited a consultant versus a business partner and felt like a brick had been lifted from my shoulders when I terminated the partnership.  I also felt like I could get my friend back.  All we talked about was the business.   This is obviously another topic, “Should you go into business with a friend?”, which I will explore in a future post.

At the end of the day time is money and unlike the latter you can not get time back.  Before entering a partnership with a new business set clear goals and timelines in a business plan for your business to ensure you are on the same page.  Last but not least, have an iron clad operating agreement that clearly stated the roles, obligations and responsibilities for each partner so that in case of a disagreement you can always point back to the paper!  If all fails, the best advice I can give you is to be a sole proprietor of your business and just hire out consultants, contractors and interns to help execute you vision without having the burden of having to come to an agreement about every business decision you want to make.

What has been your worst experience with a business partner?  Share your thoughts and comments below:)
